Pattern Architects was established in 2004 to provide:

  • consultancy services and technical expertise for the fashion industry in pattern development, grading and garment specifications for all types of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing.
  • professional development workshops in pattern making and construction for clothing educators in secondary and tertiary education establishments.
  • pre and post tertiary tuition in pattern making/grading for groups or individual students.
  • workshops designed to meet the specific needs of groups or individuals from education or industry sectors.

Consultation services are provided either in-house or at our workshop facility at 4 Ponderosa Drive, Albany, Auckland.

MEET OUR TEAM OF DEDICATED PROFESSIONALS

 

Don Hellier, Technical Consultant. 

Don has considerable experience in the fashion industry covering all aspects of garment cutting, pattern making, grading and specifications in men’s, women’s and children’s wear. He has completed:

  • 5 years apprenticeship in bespoke cutting
  • 30 years in industry, both in New Zealand and overseas, including supervisory/managerial positions
  • 20 years full-time teaching as a senior pattern maker lecturer in Fashion Studies at the Auckland University of Technology.

In 2003 Don received a Distinguished Teaching Award for excellence from A.U.T.
In 2004 Don founded Pattern Architects through which he has pursued his passion for sharing his extensive knowledge and experience in pattern design development by presenting workshops for fashion industry personnel, teachers and students, in both the secondary and tertiary education sectors on both sides of the Tasman..

 

Anne Hellier, Administration and Marketing

Anne has been involved in education from pre-school to tertiary, for the past 40 years, working as an advisor to both students and their families and liaising with support agencies. She holds:

  • a Diploma with Merit in Academic and Professional Studies (Edinburgh)
  •  a B.A. majoring in Education (Auckland)
  • Post Graduate Diplomas in Education (Auckland).

Anne’s experience includes organising conferences/seminars and presenting workshops for teachers and various professional groups. Anne’s passion for life long, active, learning accessible to all underpins the fundamental philosophy of Pattern Architects.

Anita McAdam, Specialist Presenter

Director of Studio Faro in Sydney is a presenter of specialist workshops for Pattern Architects New Zealand.

Anita has over 24 years fashion industry experience. Her achievements have spanned the fashion spectrum from theatre to commercial design in Asia, U.K., Europe and Australia.  She has lectured at international universities and presently consults to leading fashion houses both in Australia and overseas.
