Topics Testimonials Schedule

Fashion Pattern Development 1 (3 days) -recommended as a good basic start or revision. 

Participants will learn to measure the figure accurately and adjust standard size skirt, trouser and bodice block patterns to fit their personal measurements.  A variety of style patterns will be developed in half scale culminating in a full-length evening dress incorporating the techniques learned during the workshop. All participants receive a ring binder of detailed notes of the developments taught.

Actionwear for Dance and Exercise (2 days)

Building on the training received in one of the basic workshops participants will learn to create standard body suit/foundation and leotard foundation, block patterns and develop them into a variety of styles suitable for dance and exercise wear. 

Adjusting Commercial Patterns (1 day)

This workshop is suitable for beginners.  Participants will learn how to take body measurements accurately and make the necessary adjustments to the bodice/dress to achieve a personal fit. 

Children’s Wear Pattern Development (2 days)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Using a well established text, participants will learn the process of block pattern development and style variations from birth to 14 yrs. Participants will gain sufficient knowledge to enable independent use of the text. N.B. Text book is not included in workshop cost.

Corset/Bustier/Eveningwear Pattern Development (2 days)

Participants will learn to develop specialist eveningwear styles incorporating straight grain and bias cut dresses, corset/bustier bodices and full length gowns with half and full circle skirts from a basic dress, block pattern.

Dress Style Pattern Development for Day Wear(1 day)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Working from a basic dress block pattern, participants will learn to develop various styles e.g. princess line, empire line etc. through dart manipulation.

Garment Specification and Grading for Industry (2 days)

Participants will learn to establish specifications for a variety of garments; determine the grading increments for a range of sizes: create specification spreadsheets and enter data using Excel formulae.

Introduction to Pattern Drafting (1 day)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Participants will learn to draft a skirt, dress and trousers to personal measurements.

Knit Fabric Pattern Development (1 day)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Participants will develop easy and close fitting blocks to personal measurements from an existing standard knit block. They will also develop several raglan sleeve styles and calculate the percentage stretch in different types of knit fabrics.

Lingerie/Eveningwear Pattern Development (1 day)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Participants will develop a basic, fitted, straight grain and bias cut lingerie block suitable for a variety of lingerie and eveningwear styles.

Pattern Grading 1 (2 days)

Knowledge of basic pattern making and drafting are pre-requisited for this course. Participants will learn the basic principles of grading a skirt, trouser and bodice block in a variety of sizes from a standard size 12  and how to apply the increments to various sections of a garment in order to produce either a 4 or 5 cm grade progression.

Pattern Grading 2 (2 days)

Building on the training received in the "Pattern Grading 1" workshop participants will learn to grade various style patterns for skirts, trousers and bodices.

Pattern Grading 3 (1 day)

Building on the training received in the "Pattern Grading 1" workshop, participants will learn to grade patterns for tailored jackets with 2 piece sleeves including lining and fusing patterns.

Producing Patterns from Existing Garments 1 (2 days)

Building on the training received in the initial Pattern Drafting workshop participants will learn to develop patterns from a shirt, blouse, skirt and trousers without unpicking or tracing.

Producing Patterns from Existing Garments 2 (1 day)

Building on the training received in 'Producing Patterns from Existing Garments 1' participants will learn to develop patterns from a tailored jacket, including a two piece sleeve, lapel, collar, and lining without unpicking or tracing.  

Style Development for Half Scale Mannequins (1 day)

This workshop focuses on techniques for constructing half scale patterns and garments to fit the mannequins. Highly recommended for teachers as a means to cut resource costs and save time in the initial toile and sampling stages.

Skirt Style Pattern Development (1 day) 

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Working from a basic block pattern, participants will learn to develop various styles including panel, A-line and asymmetrical styles with flounce, godet and basque.

Tailored Jacket Pattern Development (2 days)

Building on the training received in the basic workshops, participants will learn to develop a basic jacket block into a classic, princess line jacket with 2 piece sleeve, lapel, collar, pockets, fusing and lining.

Trouser  Pattern Development for Best Fit (1 day)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Participants will develop three basic trouser blocks accommodating different figure types for a better fitting garment.

Trouser  Style Pattern Development (1 day)

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Participants will learn to adapt a basic trouser block into style patterns covering pleats, basques, waistbands and pockets.

Creative Tailoring (2 days)

In this advanced workshop participants will be introduced to a variety of techniques including dart manipulation, multiple panels, gathers, tucks and a variety of articulated sleeve styles to achieve more interesting jacket styles.

Darts to Drape in Flat Pattern Making  (2 days)

Using basic blocks participants will learn manipulation techniques producing complex, sophisticated, draping styles for evening and daywear. Emphasis is placed on achieving a good fit utilising both straight and bias grain styles.

Fashion Design and Portfolio Development (2 days)

The design training in this workshop is cross-disciplined and focuses on the design process; building a range; the technical application in product development and ultimately, a professional portfolio. This workshop is aimed at those starting their own label

Fashion Illustration (2 days)

Participants will learn how to create a fashion figure template, the use of different colour and media to create depth and movement in the illustration and simple presentation techniques to achieve a professional portfolio.

AB Sitam-A Bespoke Pattern System (3 days)

This system enables you to create new basic blocks for industry or made to measure clients in minutes. N.B. Additional cost for manual and specialist equipment.
