The following topics can be covered in group workshops or in personal one-on-one training situations either in-house or at our training facility at 4 Ponderosa Drive, Browns Bay, Auckland.MEASURING THE HUMAN FIGURE:
Step by step instruction in taking measurements off the figure accurately and confidently for the development of block patterns.
BASIC BLOCK PATTERNS FOR WOMEN'S, MEN'S AND CHILDREN'SWEAR:
Daywear , eveningwear, sportswear, knitwear and intimate apparel (lingerie, corsets, underwear etc.)
PATTERN DEVELOPMENT FOR STYLE DESIGNS:
Developing the basic blocks into design style in skirts, dresses, blouses, trousers, structured and unstructured jackets.
DESIGN ADAPTATIONS:
Adapting basic sleeves, collars, necklines etc into a variety of style designs.TAILORED JACKET DEVELOPMENT:
Creating patterns for tailored jackets with two-piece sleeves, lapels and collars.
Lining and fusing patterns. NB. A sound knowledge of basic pattern making is a prerequisite for this particular area.
PATTERN DEVELOPMENT FROM EXISTING GARMENTS:
The art of producing an accurate pattern from an existing garment without resorting to unpicking or tracing to an appropriate standard for use in industry. NB. pattern drafting knowledge is a prerequisite.PATTERN GRADING and GARMENT SPECIFICATIONS:
Training undertaken for basic, intermediate and advanced levels of grading and specifications for all types of men's, women's and children's wear.APPROPRIATE LEARNING LEVELS:
Tuition provided at appropriate levels as follows:Basic level: For:
- participants, having no previous experience in pattern making, seeking basic knowledge and practical application in pattern making prior to undertaking fashion studies at tertiary level.
- participants having home sewing experience, seeking to gain further experience using industrial methods. At this level a basic 3 day workshop is highly recommended. (see Workshop Schedule for details). Individual training is also available.
Intermediate Level:
For those wishing to gain further knowledge and practical experience in pattern making techniques, who have completed:- the basic level as outlined above
- short courses or night classes at tertiary level
- industrial experience.
Advanced Level:
For those wishing to gain knowledge of advanced pattern making techniques who have completed:- the intermediate level as outlined above.
